這句話比較常聽英國人說,美國人比較少一些。
意思很接近:How are you? How are you doing?
但其實更貼近:How are you managing*?
(*這裡的 managing 有努力完成、設法完成之意。)
這句話通常用於關心對方的某特定狀況 --
比方說,對方經歷了某種困難、正在努力於某些事情、適應新環境、身體健康、新工作、財務問題... 等等,
How are you getting on (with ...)? 你的...近況如何?
How are you getting on with your new job?
How are you getting on with your new business?
下面兩個情境給大家參考~
(新同事 Sue 進公司第一天,主管 Tom 問她是否適應/上手) --
Tom: How are you getting on, Sue? Are we making you work too hard?
Sue: No, everything's fine. Thank you for asking.
(寫信給搬到紐約去的 Jane,關心她是否適應) --
Dear Jane,
How are you getting on in New York? I hope that you are doing well and enjoying your new life.
不建議沒來由的當作 “你好嗎?” 來用,如果沒有指特定情況,
有些外國人聽起來,會解讀成:“你最近混得如何?”
很容易造成彼此的誤會喔~
